The philosophy of Karmahealth is consume food in the state nature intended, everything in moderation and the quality of what you put in to your body determines the quality of what you will get out of your body. YOU ARE SWEET ENOUGH.....Over the years I have developed my own philosophy regarding health. Many of my opinions haven’t followed ‘the norm’. One such view is my attitude to most types of sugar in our diet. I believe the increase today, in all sugar consumption is at the root of many of the health problems our society is suffering today and not just the obvious ones like Type 2 diabetes, obesity, dental health. To me the biggest problem with sugar in general, is its contribution to inflammation in the body and its ability to lower the body’s immunity for some hours after its consumption. Inflammation and/or lowered immunity have been implicated as a trigger to cancer and are contributors to heart disease, arthritic conditions, gastro intestinal problems, auto immune conditions, the list goes on.
I was excited to come across a book some time ago called “Sweet Poison” by David Gillespie. People who have read it as a result of my recommendation, have asked if ‘David Gillespie’ is my pseudonym as a lot of the book is filled with what I have been dictating to them for years. David's issue is with fructose, the so called ‘natural sugar’. I do have some reservations in regard to certain aspects of the book. The main one being David's views on exercise.
To the frustration of many of my clients I deal in health and wellbeing NOT weight loss as a goal. My philosophy is longevity with vitality. For most people, if every day you eat moderate servings of healthy food, exercise moderately , spend a few minutes in stillness and have a happy attitude you will naturally be the weight you are meant to be for you - not what big business has dictated is ‘the look’ for now. There is currently a trend to discredit exercise as a tool for weight loss, however, one cant dispute the HEALTH benefits of exercise. Almost daily, studies are being released extolling the benefits of regular, varied exercise for prevention of cancer, depression, cardio vascular health, diabetes, increasing immunity, healthy menopause, stabilising blood pressure, increasing energy, regulating sleep….as well as for flexibility and fall prevention as we age. We must keep moving especially as today, so many of us lead such sedentary lives. I encourage you to have a look at David’s book or at least click on the following link to his website for a preview of the book and access to his blog and forum www.sweetpoison.com.au All make for interesting reading. karmahealth is about all the factors that are involved in achieving optimal health encompassing nutrition as well as physical, mental and spiritual activity.
